Primoz Roglic was a surprise presence at Tirreno-Adriatico, and he took a masterful win, conquering all three stages that took place in the mountains and hills. Now he returns to his planned initial schedule, as he leads
Jumbo-Visma at the
Volta a Catalunya.
Roglic began training for the 2023 season in early December only. Despite the late start, the Slovenian caught up with his form rather quick and already performed seemingly at his best level in Italy, or close at least. Here in Catalunya, where there will be three high mountain stages, a better test will emerge for everyone's form.
Not only a physical but a psychological battle, as he faces fellow Giro d'Italia contenders Remco Evenepoel and João Almeida among others. It will be a brutal fight for the overall classification all throughout the week. Roglic will have the support of a strong team including
Robert Gesink who returns to racing.
In the mountains he can expect to have company as the Dutch team selected
Sepp Kuss,
Steven Kruijswijk,
Tobias Foss and
Koen Bouwman all to take part in the seven-day race, whilst
Michel Hessmann concludes the lineup.
