33-year old Giacomo Nizzolo is looking to flip the chapter on a disappointing 2022 season, and he's starting this year at the Vuelta where he will lead Israel - Premier Tech in search of a strong win.
“The Vuelta San a Juan is a good way to start the season. Two weeks in the heat is good for the muscles and the body in general, so it’s perfect to get ready for the races in Europe," Nizzolo said in a press release. "I’ve had a good winter and I’ve got a good base. I feel now I need to work on intensity, and this race is perfect for that. This year in Argentina is the best start list so far for sprinters, so for sure it will be a good test to see where we are compared to the other sprinters. Obviously we’re going there 100% focused, and if there’s any chance we can take, we’ll try to take it."
The Israel - Premier Tech rider leads the team's ambitions in Argentina, and should have a total of six opportunities to chase a stage win. Simultaneously, he looks to build his form towards the spring and to solidify the leadout into the season. Not much is known of his sprint schedule, but Nizzolo has made it clear that Milano-Sanremo is a big target, he will look to be in the fight for the win there.
“There are a few opportunities, but we’re not stressed over getting a result, and that’s a nice situation to be in, so we can enjoy ourselves. As we only have two or three guys in the lead out, we need to be even more clever than usual. It’s nice to be in a smaller train, where we can hide a little bit, and hook onto other trains and come from behind.”
