Filippo Ganna will be a candidate to win today's time-trial and he has told the media some of his expectations for today, after what has been a disappointing
Tour de France results-wise until now.
"These have been very tiring and difficult days for me, especially in the Pyrenees. I don't feel one hundred percent myself," Ganna told Gazzetta dello Sport this morning. The Italian could only manage a fourth place in the initial time-trial, and hasn't been able to show his prowess of the last few years throughout the Tour. Today is his last opportunity to strike big in the 40-kilometer time-trial into Rocamadour, however it won't be easy.
The lack of powerhouse-suiting sections will not favour him, and the explosive and hilly finale will be complicated to manage when the competition includes the likes of Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar. The World champion nevertheless starts as one of the main candidates, and one of the first to go up the road too.
"My priority is mainly to finish the Tour and get to Paris. After that I will finally be able to rest," he said. Regarding today's effort, he admits: "I have not yet looked at the route of the time trial, I will only do that during the reconnaissance in the morning. I take it as it comes and am happy with every result".
