every sports develops over time. one common pattern is specialization of different types of riders (or players or whatever it is in any other sports). anyone who is not stupid nor ignorant knows this. the fact that he ignores probably only reflects his unsatisfaction about the loss of status that comes with retirement from professional sports. poor sportsmanship.

what a looser. seems like his self confidence is down the drain. obviously, he never had anything else but his cycling past to be proud of. by the way ... pogi does not lace any shoes, they have boa these days...

It sounds like he is seriously considering a new, more supportive role, which reflects well on him by demonstrating an acceptance of reality. The reality is that he is the weakest among the team's three general classification contenders. If this is the case, it shows a level of maturity beyond that of many others and could potentially extend his tenure with the team for several more years.
