The battle for the yellow jersey is one that has been taking place since the first day of the Tour de France. After Adam Yates, Jai Hindley has taken over the race lead as Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar battled among themselves. Hindley is perhaps Vingegaard's biggest rival, Jonathan Vaughters argues.

"They'll definitely take time on Pogacar if they can. They’ll want to put that to bed and put the last nail in the coffin as soon as they can. But I don't think Pogacar is Vingegaard's biggest rival. I think it's Jai," Vaughters commented on the Eurosport's 'The Breakaway' show. "I think he is going to be harder to unseat from that yellow jersey than everyone thinks. Tomorrow (today's stage 6, ed.) is going to be incredibly difficult and of course Vingegaard is clearly the strongest rider in the race by a mile – he put a minute into Pogacar in 1km and brought Hindley back by over a minute in 1km on that climb."

Today's stage into Cauterets has the potential to see fireworks once again as it features three long and difficult ascents. Hindley is a pure climber and usually one who finds his best legs towards the end of the race, perfectly suited to the route on hand at this year's Grand Boucle. With Tadej Pogacar - as well as everyone else - failing to match Vingegaard on stage 5 upon his attack, the manager of EF Education-EasyPost argues that Hindley could be the biggest competition to the jersey.

"What we saw today was the only chance that the race was going to be a little bit more exciting than just the dynamic duo punching each other. So now we've got that. To me, Jai Hindley recovers very well in the third week of a Grand Tour and he's already got a little bit of free time, the 'magical power of the yellow jersey', which does give riders a boost. I think it turns the race into something a bit more interesting than it was going to be before," he concluded.
