The second stage of
Tirreno-Adriatico was a quiet day for
Filippo Ganna, but his previous success in the time trial stage enabled him to hold onto his Maglia Azzurra jersey for
Ineos Grenadiers.
He ended the first stage with a 28-second advantage and was able to maintain this gap in the second stage. "We defended the jersey and tomorrow we'll see what happens,” Ganna told Cyclingpronet.
He expects to hold on to the leader's position until the fifth stage, but beyond that point, the situation becomes uncertain. “I should be safe up to Sassotetto (stage 5, ed.) but we'll still see how things go,” said the Italian rider.
On stage 3 of the Italian race he has been part of the echelons attempt by Jumbo-Visma towards the end of the day, keeping the blue jersey secure. Eventually a bunch sprint took place, and the Italian remains at the head of the overall classification into his first big challenge.
