This race is always a boring one.
It's always about as interesting as Jonothan Milan vs Milan Fretin and Daniel Skerl at the Alula Tour.
A drag race where leadouts, tactics, drafting, everything is removed. The strongest rider always wins dominantly, and there is never a real contest.
Compare that to Amstel.
- Lenny Martínez, Mattias Skjelmose, Romain Grégoire, Kévin Vauquelin, Cosnefroy and Christian Scaroni should be ashamed of themselves. A 19 year old french boy beat all the "experienced" professionals...ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...
I'm delighted with Seixas because he did this on a field that doesn't suit him 100%, on short climbs.
It doesn't matter that happened against B-C category cyclists, but realistically, today Seixas eats for breakfast Remco and Vinni the 🐟 if they performed. He's great, a big champion.
The race of the decade awaits us at LBL. The wizard from France has no flaws and is a machine💪💪💪💪💪. Will we see a tough fight between Pogi and Seixass, or will Remco beat both of them? I already know the outcome.
- He has his bike with him - Froome should have been DQ'd as he ran without his bike.
- With such modest field of endurance sprinters, I find it quite a disappointment that a stage with 3700 m of climbing ends like this. There's Pidcock and Dati who are second rate endurance sprinters, and no-one else.
If top riders like Michael Matthews, Filippo Ganna or Iván Romeo (along that axis) were here, it would've been a great stage.
If the stage had Santa Barbara as a summit finish it'd have been great. That climb is 13 km at 8.2%, maximum 24%.
The stage, in that case, would've been cruel. 188 km with 4700 m of climbing is very hard.
It could have finished on the straight section of Santa Barbara (so the climb would be 6.3 km at 9%, maximum 24%), making the stage 181 km with 4240 m of climbing, which'd have been better.
- he is definitely pretty confident, but the animosity is next level.
- My view is obviously biased as I'm looking to become a pro myself (still time), but as for the question:
What more does Pogačar need to do?
Answer: Nothing, because they'll never award it to him. Not that that should affect him.
Too many people see cycling as just riding a bike. But there's been prejudice towards pto cyclists for a very long time.
Perhaps it is linked with the prejudice towards normal cyclists on the roads. Yes many cyclists are obnoxious brats, but most tension between them and cars come from the fact that car drivers see them as intruders. They think that, as drivers, they own the road and have every right to it. There's also jealousy because they can't do the physical effort to cycle.
That extends to pro cyclists too.
- Mondo Duplantis absolutely deserves to be on the list. Whenever he grabs a pole he produces a thing of beauty. He is an alien, but I don't think he is worthy of beating Pogačar.
But Carlos Alcaraz most certainly does not deserve it. He and Jannik Sinner were both level of 2 Grand Slams last year - you can't place one above the other. And if you can't place one above the other then neither are worthy of the award. You have to be dominant. And Alcaraz has some strange habits, he is a real sinner (apologies for the terrible pun).
I do think Fabian Cancellara's theory about Pogačar being less appreciated as he is not from a big nation holds up here. It also applies to Duplantis.
Marc Marquez is worthy of being up there too. But he didn't get the award because MotoGP isn't big enough - the same situation as Pogačar.
- All of these "seasoned pros" couldn't have followed Pogi in Strade Bianche like Seixass did. So will it be a surprise if Seixass wins? I just don't know... maybe you're right, considering he's only 19.
- Exactly, if Remco wins when Jonas and Pogi retire, people and the media would still say: "OK, so he won the Tour, but Pogi and Jonas weren't their."
But that is still a good scenario for Remco. What will propably happen are youg good cyclists, ala Seixass and others. Remco will be "washed away" in Grand Tours.
- Liege is the first race of the season that really suits Pogi the G.O.A.T. So far he has been on "foreign territory" in all four races... but on Sunday he plays at home, on his own turf, and you all know how it ends in 99% of the time. You don't need Mou to draw it for you... d'ya?
