The Pan-American cycling championships experienced yesterday its first major men's event with the arrival of the elite time trial in which Miguel Angel Lopez was the big favorite to take the gold, but he came up just short of victory against teammate
Walter Vargas.
However, the reigning Colombian champion against the clock saw Walter Vargas, his compatriot and teammate in Team Medellin - EPM, beat him by just one second. Third placed Kaden Hopkings finished 2:06 minutes back, whilst American Amber Neben won the women's title.
The two teammates were the best by far in the race and were the only ones to go under 50 minutes in the race with an average of just over 38 km/h. on the hilly course.
