Nothing to do, the unbeatable
Tadej Pogacar has won his fourth stage out of seven at the
Volta a Catalunya. In the hilly circuit around the Alto de Montjuic the
UAE Team Emirates won in a final sprint and sealed the overall classification
A day that traditionally favours the breakaway and sees a tough fight to get in, but it was not entirely the case this time around in the final day of the Catalan race. Jimmy Janssens, Idar Andersen, Georg Steinhauser, Harrison Wood and Ander Okamika formed a five-rider group that marked most of the day.
UAE Team Emirates and Israel - Premier Tech controlled the front group, rather comfortably actually. Entering the final circuit Steinhauser and Andersen quickly dropped the rest of the front group whilst Marc Soler and Valentin Paret-Peintre attacked from the peloton and built a small gap which they kept for a few laps.
´The duo was caught with 23 kilometers to go, whilst Steinhauser was then isolated in the front of the race; only to be caught with 14 kilometers to go. INEOS led the peloton, in the penultimate ascent of the Montjuic
Guillaume Martin and then Tadej Pogacar guided the group and split it to small groups.
The peloton reconnected in the descent and several attacks took place nut a small peloton then entered the final ascent in front. Stephen Williams anticipated the GC riders with a powerful attack, which Pogacar could only close after the summit with Egan Bernal and Enric Mas following.
Other riders then joined. Enric Mas and then João Almeida attacked towards the end and the Portuguese was close to succeeding, but was ultimately brought back for a sprint. Tadej Pogacar once again did what he does best, winning in style. This time around he beat
Dorian Godon and Guillaume Martin in the final sprint.
