De Gendt and Andersen were the last ones caught with 30 kilometers to go. Wout Poels, Sepp Kuss and Antonio Tiberi sprinted to bonus seconds right after, and two kilometers later Luis Ángel Maté launched himself into a solo attack.
The Spaniard was eventually caught with 9 kilometers to go, with the sprinter teams then picking it up into the finale where a bunch sprint was inevitable. INEOS Grenadiers led out Ethan Hayter into the final kilometer, Lotto Dstny also picked it up towards the finale with Jarrad Drizners then being the first sprinter to launch the dash to the line.
It was a very tight battle for the stage win but at the end of the sprint it was Marijn van den Berg who was the fastest and took the victory. He beat
