Finishing fourth on stage 15 of the
Giro d'Italia,
Bauke Mollema is still searching for a stage win that would complete his set of Grand Tour stage wins. With mountainous stages to come, expect Mollema to be in the fight again even though he traditionally struggles in the third week.
“I was happy to be there. It's going in the right direction. A week ago I didn't have the legs for this. Yesterday I was also there and the legs are good," the 36-year-old
Trek - Segafredo rider revealed to Eurosport immediately following the conclusion to stage 15. “Those guys rode so fast on that climb. In the end, I was a bit too far to come back, but I'm glad things are going in the right direction,"
With a rest day on Monday, Mollema is allowed a day to recover before he goes again. “I am happy that things are going much better. Usually, the third week is not my best week, but if I can continue this line I will try a few more times.”
Stage 15 was eventually won by the American,
Brandon McNulty who edged out
Ben Healy and
Marco Frigo to take the first Grand Tour stage win of his career.
