UAE Team Emirates-XRG have suffered another injury blow as the team's 2026 woes continue. Filippo Baroncini is the latest added to a growing injury list after the Italian rider suffered a suspected broken collarbone at Tro-Bro Léon on Sunday.
Injuries to several key riders disrupted the team's spring plans, now four riders were affected by crashes on Saturday and Sunday and forced to withdraw from races. A mass crash on the second stage of the Giro d'Italia ultimately took three out of the race, before a medical update today confirmed Baroncini now faces a spell off the bike.
The 25-year-old crashed out of the French race and is suspected to have suffered a left clavicle (collarbone) injury. He was transported to Brussels and will undergo surgery before a stint at home to recover.
"Unfortunately Filippo Baroncini was involved in a crash at Tro-Bro Leon and suffered a suspected left clavicle/acromio-clavicular injury. He will undergo surgical assessment in Brussels tomorrow before travelling home for rehab and recovery under the supervision of team medical staff," UAE Team Emirates-XRG confirmed in a statement.

The news is a blow for Baroncini, who recovered from a devastating crash in last year's Tour de Pologne last August to return to racing this season. His domestique work in 2026 at Volta a Catalunya and classics such as Amstel Gold Race and Eschborn-Frankfurt were made all the more impressive when considering his rehabilitation after being in an induced coma following the crash.
Saturday's mass crash at the Giro d'Italia proved a disaster for the team, with Jay Vine and Marc Soler suffering nasty injuries and not continuing the stage. Vine's race ended with a concussion and factured elbow, while Soler also fractured his pelvis.

Adam Yates, who before the race was tipped for a bid at general classification, was also involved in the crash but finished the stage bruised and bloodied. However, The British rider withdrew from the race on Sunday morning after assessment of his injuries.
Team bosses hoped that their injury woes were behind them after Tim Wellens, Jonatan Narváez, Mikkel Bjerg and Jan Christen all recently returned to racing after injuries.
While Tadej Pogacar's goals were largely unaffected by injury, he now sets his sights on the Tour de France following victory in Romandie at the beginning of the month. However, their first grand tour of the season is already in disarray, with just five riders set to take the start when the Giro rolls out on Italian soil tomorrow.
