BORA - hansgrohe had a tough
Tour de Suisse, with only three of it's seven riders making it to the finish in Vaduz. However, all three finished inside the Top10, with
Sergio Higuita loosing the race lead on the final day but holding on to second place.
"I knew it would be hard today. The gap between the best placed GC riders was not that big and the course was more suited to the time trial specialists," Higuita said at the end of his effort. He finished a decent 11th place, however as he departed with only two seconds advantage over Geraint Thomas, he couldn't hang on to the yellow jersey he had conquered the day before.
"I did my best and in the end it was enough for second place overall. I am happy with my result here, because to be able to wear the yellow jersey on the last day and take a podium place in the GC is really nice and gives me extra motivation for the next races," he added. Although plans may change with Aleksandr Vlasov infected with Covid-19, Higuita's schedule isn't likely to include the Tour de France - but instead the Vuelta a España.
He didn't manage to take a win in Suisse but was consistent and showed tremendous climbing capacity, which he will be building on to take further results later in the season. "We were a bit unlucky that some of our riders unfortunately had to drop out due to illness, but thank you to everyone who was still able to support me here until the end," he concluded.
