Rohan Dennis came into the opening prologue of the
Tour de Romandie with the hopes of repeating his 2021 prowess, however he managed to come home only in second place which will be a disappointment to the Australian national time-trial champion.
Now in
Jumbo-Visma, he saw his former teammate Ethan Hayter take the best of him by four seconds in the technical 5.1 kilometer prologue in Lausanne. "I have to be satisfied with the ride I have completed. Of course I would have preferred to be here with the win. I can't blame myself and gave everything. Today there was just a rider stronger. Hats off to Ethan," Dennis said in a post-race interview.
"In the last corners I did not come out very well. I gave everything in the first few kilometers. I was a little dizzy in the closing of the prologue, but I think Ethan was hard to beat today. In any case, the form for the remainder of this race is in place,” he concluded.
Although it is unclear what Dennis' role will be for the rest of the race, he is showing good form and can be a very valuable asset for Jumbo-Visma. With Steven Kruijswijk and Sepp Kuss alongside, the Dutch team have the firepower to put on a strong performance in Switzerland this week.
