The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal takes place on Sunday, 13 September 2026, with one of the strongest one-day fields of the autumn heading to Mont Royal for the second half of Canada's WorldTour double-header.
Montreal has long been the more attritional of the two Canadian races, but this year's edition carries an extra layer of importance.
The World Championships return to the city later in September, meaning many of the riders targeting the rainbow jersey will get a valuable race-speed look at terrain closely related to the decisive part of the Worlds course

McNulty returns to defend as Worlds contenders gather in Montreal
One of the clearest names to watch is Brandon McNulty, who returns as defending champion after leading home a UAE one-two in 2025. His team arrives with extraordinary depth again, with Isaac del Toro, Adam Yates, Jhonatan Narvaez, Tim Wellens, Florian Vermeersch and Felix Grossschartner all also included.
The race also provides another major step towards the World Championships for Remco Evenepoel. Montreal's repeated climbing and selective nature make it a much more revealing test than a straightforward warm-up, and Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe can also call on Maxim Van Gils should the race develop into a more explosive finale.
For Tom Pidcock, the circuit looks particularly inviting. The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team leader has the climbing and acceleration needed for a race that often breaks down through repeated attacks rather than one decisive ascent.
Brandon McNulty returns as defending champion
Paul Seixas is another rider whose presence carries obvious interest. The Frenchman has been one of the breakthrough names of 2026, and Montreal offers a stern one-day examination ahead of his next major objectives. Decathlon CMA CGM Team also bring Tiesj Benoot and Paul Lapeira.
Lidl-Trek have no shortage of options either. Quinn Simmons returns after finishing third here in 2025, while Juan Ayuso, Giulio Ciccone and Derek Gee-West give the team several different ways to approach a hard race.
Home attention will naturally fall on Michael Woods, who lines up for the Canadian national team and has the climbing pedigree to make an impact if the race becomes especially selective.
There is depth well beyond the most obvious favourites too, with Matteo Jorgenson, Ben Healy, Marc Hirschi, Alberto Bettiol, Lennert Van Eetvelt, Thymen Arensman, Magnus Sheffield, Sergio Higuita, Michal Kwiatkowski, Mauro Schmid and Michael Matthews all included in a high-class field.
