Tour de Romandie: Ethan Hayter wins opening prologue

A strong day for INEOS Grenadiers, British national time-trial champion Ethan Hayter has soared to the win in the opening prologue of the Tour de Romandie.

The 5.1-kilometer prologue was technical, so not only the time-trialing ability proved crucial but also the technique the riders took through the many corners. Early on, the BORA lineup had taken over the lead with Max Schachmann and Felix Grossschartner putting in strong times to see the German team ahead of the competition.

When the big names set off the ramp though, quickly differences were made as Ethan Hayter blasted through the course nine seconds faster than the Austrian. Rohan Dennis arrived soon after but could only manage second place four second behind. No-one else managed to reach the surroundings of the duo, as the podium stayed like that until the finale.

Ethan Hayter is the first leader of the race, wrapping off a successful day for INEOS as Geraint Thomas also went on to finish fourth. Rohan Dennis and Felix Grossschartner completed the podium.
