Tom Pidcock is one of the most talented cyclists in the business, one of the best over road,
cyclocross and mountain bike all at once. However, all that talent forces him to make some hard decisions, and the Briton has announced he would not take part at the World Championships. His Cyclocross calendar this winter is also set to be shorter, as he looks to focus on the road.
“We need to make our plans for that, I’m not sure. There’s some uncertainty about the World Cup in Britain, but that’s obviously one big goal if that happens," Pidcock told Cyclingnews. He's currently racing the Tour of Britain, but will however have a calmer end of the season in comparison to the riders that will travel down under. He has begun thinking about 2023 already however, where he will focus on the spring classics, and hence will make changes to his training over the winter.
“I want to prepare properly for the Classics," he said. "I don’t know how much Hoogerheide [CX World Championships venue] suits me, it seems to be getting dryer and faster every year. If I’m going to beat Wout [van Aert] and Mathieu [van der Poel], it needs to be a good course," he said. His victory in Fayetteville however came in a dry and fast track, but without the presence of his two rivals.
“So I want to be a bit more selective: whether that’s the first part of the season, with the European Championships and the World Cup in the UK, or the end of season with the Worlds, I don’t know yet," he concluded. Major decisions are yet to be made, but his winter months are starting to take form as Pidcock loost to bolster his attention on the road.
