Marianne Vos won the second stage of the
Tour de France Femmes. She beat
Silvia Persico and Katarzyna Niewiadoma in the sprint to secure the stage victory.
The breakaway riders included Marit Raaijmakers (Human Powered Health), Sabrina Stultiens (Liv Racing Xstra), Femke Gerritse (Parkhotel Valkenburg) and Rotem Gafinowitz (Roland Cogeas Edelweiss Squad). Breakaway riders managed to create a gap of 1 minute and 34 seconds over the peloton. But the peloton soon caught up to them 77 kilometers before the finish line.
Marta Cavalli (FDJ-Suez-Futuroscope), Amanda Spratt (Team BikeExchange-Jayco), and Nicole Frain (Parkhotel Valkenburg) were involved in a crash 25 kilometers before the finish line.
Elisa Balsamo launched an early attack 18 kilometers before the finish, along with
Elisa Longo Borghini and Marianne Vos. She managed to gain 30 seconds lead. The gap increased to 42 seconds in final kilometers .
Katarzyna Niewiadoma launched attack 500 meters before the finish line but Vos was not going down without a fight. She counterattacked and finally secured the victory. Silvia Persico finished second and Katarzyna Niewiadoma finished third. Vos is the overall leader after stage 2.
