Remi Cavagna, the 29-year-old French cyclist, is set to join Groupama - FDJ in 2025 after his tenure with Movistar Team. A decorated rider, Cavagna claimed the French national road race title in 2021 and secured the national time trial championship in both 2020 and 2023. Speaking with Cyclism Actu, he reflected on his challenging 2024 season and his aspirations with his new team.
“2024, I don't really want to talk about it, we're not going to go back over it, but it's true that it was a very complicated year physically, mentally, with a lot of questioning,” Cavagna admitted. “We managed to find a solution to move forward. I found the best solution for me and I'm super happy to have joined the Groupama-FDJ team. I learned my trade abroad, at Soudal - Quick-Step, I gained a lot of experience and now I find myself in a French team.”
Cavagna expressed his eagerness to use his experience to mentor younger riders within the Groupama-FDJ setup. “I have experience and I want to bring that to the youngsters too. Because the Groupama-FDJ team is the World Tour but there is also the continental team. There are lots of really promising youngsters, I was able to ride with them, they are very efficient, I have lots of things to teach them that's for sure.”
His excitement about joining Groupama-FDJ was evident as he described the team's commitment to performance. “I feel like I'm a new pro, living my first year as a pro. I was super impressed by the team, the staff, everything that was put in place around performance, time trials, and that's what I was looking for. I know that they work very closely with their equipment supplier to make the fastest bike possible, and this search for performance is what I needed.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Cavagna is already focused on his plans for the Tour de France, particularly the prospect of riding a stage in his home region. “Normally I am scheduled to do the Tour de France. In addition, on July 14th there is a great stage at home, in Enza, the Mont d'Or, so it is really a dream a bit like every year. Auvergne loves cycling, and that makes me want even more to perform and be there.”
