No 3rd win for @kaden_groves in @lavuelta, due to some bad luck (and a strong Molano). It became a second place but our sprinter consolidates his lead in the points classification. Tomorrow we climb again. #alpecindeceuninck
Kaden Groves was in advance the top favorite to triumph in the twelfth stage of the Vuelta a España. The Australian from Alpecin-Deceuninck was brought forward in a seat in the final phase, but was unable to finish in the sprint. The wearer of the points jersey came out of his pedal approximately 100 meters from the finish and therefore lost a lot of speed. Ultimately, he finished the stage in second place and looked back on his sprint in the flash interview.
"The team did a fantastic job," the runner-up praises. "At the end we got a bit stuck because of UAE. Moreover, my chain flew off, although luckily I got it back very quickly." I think I managed a strong sprint in the end, but unfortunately I was a little too far along to be able to compete for the stage victory."
"Fortunately I was able to do good things in the battle for the points classification," said Groves, who finished second in Zaragoza. "I'm in good shape at the moment. Moreover, my teammates ensured that I could start the final very fresh," the Australian once again praised his colleagues. "The mechanical problem threw a spanner in the works, because I was still able to show my speed."
Groves already managed to win twice in this Vuelta a Espana and would have been happy to add a third in Zaragoza. "Missing out on the win here is extremely disappointing," he says. "It could have been my third. Fortunately, I was able to do good things in the battle for the points classification. That is also an important goal of ours," said the sprinter.
