The most recent edition of the Itzulia was marked by injuries to Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel. Precisely the Belgian's top teammate at Soudal Quick-Step,
Mikel Landa, also crashed and now everything is focused on arriving in good condition for the next Tour de France.
The crash that landed Landa in the hospital with a broken collarbone and two broken ribs has changed his schedule and competitive focus. However, according to the
Marca newspaper, doctors have determined that surgery is not necessary for his collarbone, meaning his recovery will follow a more conservative course. This allows the Alava native to concentrate on returning to his best fitness without the added burden of a surgical procedure.
Although he has been forced to withdraw from upcoming races, including Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Landa is focused on a long-term goal: the Tour de France. With a recovery period of three to four weeks, the Basque cyclist intends to make the most of this time to rehabilitate and return to training for the big event in world cycling.
The Tour de France is one of the most prestigious and challenging races on the cycling calendar, and Landa is determined to be in top form to compete at the highest level. His medical and support team are carefully coordinating his recovery and training plan to ensure he is ready to face the rigors of the race.
In addition to his physical preparation, Landa is also strategically evaluating his pre-Tour race schedule. While his participation in the Tour de Romandie is in doubt, he intends to be present at the Criterium du Dauphiné as part of his preparation for the big race in July where he is expected to race alongside Remco Evenepoel who is also currently recovering from injuries sustained at the race.
