Kasper Asgreen remains one of the top riders when asphalt becomes a dusty mix of cobblestones and sterrato. That's where the Dane thrives and where he collected his career highlight to this day, when he won the Tour of Flanders in unexpected 1-on-1 sprint against Mathieu van der Poel in 2021.
Despite rather lackluster classics campaign for whole Soudal - Quick-Step in 2023, Asgreen made a decent season out of what was left for grabs, finishing seventh at Tour of Flanders, taking Danish time trial title and nearly winning back-to-back Tour de France stages in July.
This means the soon-to-be 29-years-old rider can look forward to put his powerful engine on the show proudly once again this year and now we know when that is going to happen.
Asgreen will start off his classics campaign on February 24 at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, a race where he can't look back at great track record. The very next day will be a different story at Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne which Asgreen won with a solo attack in 2020. Last on the Dane's provisional menu would be Strade Bianche a week later. On the sterrato roads around Sienna, Asgreen was third in 2022, meaning he can't be underestimated in such race either.
