Vuelta a Espana 2026 Classifications Update Stage 20 - Enric Mas secures first Grand Tour victory as Sepp Kuss surges six places into top five

The first red jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana will be decided immediately in Monaco, where a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial opens a race featuring more than 58,000 metres of climbing, repeated summit finishes and a second race against the clock later in the final week.

This live classifications hub will be updated after every stage with the latest General Classification, Points Classification, Mountains Classification and Best Young Rider standings, tracking the fight for the red, green, polka-dot and white jerseys from Stage 1 on August 22 through to the final stage in Granada on September 13.

The overall battle will be shaped by repeated opportunities for the climbers, from the early Pyrenean and Andorran tests to Calar Alto, Sierra de la Pandera, Penas Blancas and the decisive Collado del Alguacil. The two individual time trials and bonus seconds provide further chances for the gaps between the main contenders to change.

Sprint finishes and intermediate sprints will drive the points competition, breakaways can quickly transform the mountains standings and the white jersey will develop alongside many of the same stages that decide the general classification. Each update will show the latest standings after the day's racing and highlight the important changes across all four competitions.

Mas began the stage with a 1:37 advantage over Roglic and emerged from the final summit finish with another 38 seconds in hand. His total time of 70:56:58 leaves him 2:15 clear before the final stage, putting the Movistar Team leader on the brink of standing on the top step of a Grand Tour podium for the first time.

Roglic retained second overall, but Felix Gall moved to within 29 seconds of the Slovenian after reducing his deficit to Mas from 3:01 to 2:44. Richard Carapaz remains fourth but is now 6:54 behind the red jersey.

Kuss was the biggest mover following his repeated long-range attacks. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider rose from 11th to fifth at 8:45, moving 43 seconds ahead of Oscar Onley.

Onley consequently slipped to sixth, with Jakob Omrzel, Clement Berthet and Cristian Rodriguez each also dropping one position. Harold Tejada retained 10th at 14:40, while Mattias Skjelmose fell out of the top 10.

Van Aert mathematically secured the points classification by taking maximum points at the intermediate sprint in Guejar Sierra. The Belgian now holds 326 points, giving him an unassailable 87-point advantage over Team Visma | Lease a Bike teammate Matthew Brennan.

Alessandro Romele remains third on 171, ahead of Bryan Coquard and Jordi Meeus. Andreas Leknessund moved up to seventh, while Ramses Debruyne climbed two positions into eighth after his prominent performance in the queen-stage breakaway.

Buitrago secured the mountains classification despite a sustained challenge from Van Aert during Stage 20. The Colombian finishes the decisive mountain stage with 78 points, 16 more than the green-jersey winner. Van Aert collected two points on Puerto de Los Blancares before taking maximum points on both ascents of Puerto de El Purche. He was unable to score on El Duque or Collado del Alguacil, allowing Buitrago to preserve his lead.

Leknessund sits third with 36 points, while stage winner Landa moved directly into fourth on 30. Tobias Halland Johannessen climbed 11 places to fifth, and Debruyne rose 24 positions into ninth.

Onley retained the white jersey despite losing fifth place overall to Kuss. The Netcompany INEOS rider will carry an advantage of 1:10 over Omrzel into the final stage. The gap between the pair increased by seven seconds on the queen stage, with Onley now sixth overall at 9:28 and Omrzel seventh at 10:38.
