"I’m looking forward to racing at this great event" - Mark Cavendish abandons Tour de Pologne to focus on Commonwealth Games

Mark Cavendish has decided to quit the Tour de Pologne to focus on the Commonwealth Games. He completed 5 out of seven stages of the tour.

Cavendish will represent the Isle of Man this Saturday at the Commonwealth Games. "I’m sorry to leave the boys and the race, but at the same time, I’m looking forward to racing for the Isle of Man at this great event, and I want to thank the team for their support," said Cavendish.

During Commonwealth Games, the nations and Crown Dependencies of the United Kingdom split up into competing entities, giving Cavendish the rare opportunity to compete against his countrymen, Geraint Thomas and Fred Wright, in Sunday’s road race, which takes place in Warwick.

It will be an excellent opportunity for him since the race features a 16km circuit that must be completed ten times to finish the race. It does not involve any significant climbs, which gives the advantage to sprinters like Cavendish.
