Results GP de Québec 2026 - Remco Evenepoel wins two-up sprint against Ciccone; Pidcock and Seixas outsmarted

The 2026 GP de Québec has been won by Remco Evenepoel. The Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider was the strongest in a two-up sprint against Giulio Ciccone, after the two managed to be in the winning attack in a stacked field.
The breakaway of the day consisted of Nikias Arndt, Jonas Rutsch, Samuel Boardman, Alvaras Mikutis, Frank van den Broek and Storm Ingebrigtsen. The quintet was of no threat to the peloton, and the gap quickly began coming down with just over 80 kilometers as attacks began behind.
The 206-kilometer long race in a circuit that was debuted 12 months ago became very tactical, with all teams trying to have men in the main moves. All riders were caught with 57 kilometers to go, but the action wouldn't slow down. Several dozen riders then moved off the front in a split, featuring Uno-X who attacked the front group splitting it to bits but forming a more cohesive bunch.
Remco Evenepoel attacks
With 42 kilometers to go Remco Evenepoel went on the attack, with Paul Seixas also active - signaling the start of the decisive phase of the race. The attacks were non-stop, with groups still ahead of the peloton. With 28 to go the Belgian went again with Giulio Ciccone. Anthon Charmig, Alessandro Pinarello and Alberto Bettiol managed to latch on, having been ahead of the favourites by that time.
But the constant high pace in every lap saw Pinarello and Bettiol get dropped, with Evenepoel and Ciccone leading the group against a peloton that continued to lose riders with each lap. But the race was not selective enough for a small group to be formed behind where cohesion wouldn't be an issue. A start-stop motion behind kept the likes of Paul Seixas and Tom Pidcock away from the front group, despite the gaps being small.
With Evenepoel and Ciccone working together, and even getting some occasional pulls from Charmig, the chase behind looked to be doomed. Quinn Simmons attacked, followed by Michael Matthews (who didn't manage to bridge across) as both looked to keep the speed away from a stalling group.
Evenepoel attacked up the final ascent, dropping Charmig, but with Ciccone staying in his wheel. Evenepoel continued to pace up the false-flat final kilometer. Behind, Tom Pidcock would bridge across to Quinn Simmons.
The victory would be decided in a two-up sprint. Remco Evenepoel launched it first and, in the uphill finish, he managed to maintain the lead over Ciccone to take the win. Charmig would finish on the podium behind them.
This Sunday, the peloton will take on the GP de Montréal and its more climber-friendly course. It will be the single most important race leading up to the World Championships.

- The past few years, I've been on the ground in Quebec, but I missed it this year. Watching on TV for the new circuit was interesting. Congratulations to Evenepoel on his win, the right strategy and the legs to do it, clinical and excellent. Really superbly done - and he didn't get pissed off along the way, he just took the race apart at just the right time! This is going to be a hell of a world championship. Rafionain-Glas11-09-2026 - A great win by Dunbar. I thought he was done when they caught him after his first solo attempt. To climb like that and so visibly break Buitrago’s mental efforts was amazing to watch. Both of them clearly went beyond what their bodies wanted them to do, with Dunbar coming out on top. - He was almost never one to attack from far away. Back in the day his wins came from sprints near the end of stages, where he could count on getting a time gap and time bonuses. Enough of those and they added up to a solid win. He’s never been one to solo away. Most people don’t. - This is why Pogi solo wins are still better. You need ~ 2 minutes to win, you dont attack in the last 2 k, you attack at least 10k to go or the previous mountain with satellite riders.
