Tudor Pro Cycling Team have won the GP de Quebec as Julian Alaphilippe benefited from an unexpectedly tactical race. Julian Alaphilippe launched the winning attack from a small group inside the final ascent, and took his first victory of 2025.
With a more difficult circuit created, eliminating the descents in the final kilometers, this year's race saw from action from early on. The breakaway was formed by Filip Maciejuk, Felix Bouchard, Luca Vergallitto and Philippe Jacob. The race began to break with 85 kilometers to go, with UAE and Tim Wellens sparking a few moves with big names such as Quinn SImmons and Jan Tratnik present.
With just under 70 kilometers to go Julian Alaphilippe, Bastien Tronchon, Xandro Meurisse and Nils Politt created a chasing group to the breakaway, catching it and being caught by other riders such as Pavel Sivakov, Quinten Hermans, Alberto Bettiol, Anthon Charmig, Laurence Pithie, Mattias Skjelmose and Artem Shmidt. Despite its size the group would collaborate well, and wasn't caught as UAE did not want to chase for Tadej Pogacar in the peloton, but instead Visma and Jayco did most of the work for Wout van Aert and Michael Matthews.
I the penultimate lap, Tadej Pogacar attacked in the peloton, with a few riders such as Biniam Girmay, Brandon McNulty, Neilsown Powless and Alex Laurance tagging along. But UAE did not commit to working for Pogacar and McNulty eventually set off the front of this group in the flat run-in to the final climb whilst Pavel Sivakov did not wait in front. The victory looked to be in the large front group that collaborated well despite it's size.
Pavel Sivakov, Alberto Bettiol and Julian Alaphilippe set off the front close to the base of the final ascent that had ramps reaching 17%, and when it started the Frenchman in his traditional style bounced off the front with an explosive attack.
The Frenchman timed his move to perfection and won for the first time in the Tudor jersey. Sivakov almost caught him, to finish second on the day, joined by the Italian Bettiol in the peloton.
