Emanuel Buchmann was looking to race the Giro d'Italia this year and was removed from the lineup despite the good form and months of preparation. This caused an irreparable rift between the former German national champion and
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe which was inevitably going to lead to a transfer. This has now been confirmed as Buchmann joins
Cofidis for the 2025 season.
"Emanuel Buchmann is a very high-quality reinforcement for our Cofidis team. It is a source of pride and a first to welcome a rider who has already entered the Top 5 of the general classification of the Tour de France," team manager Cédric Vasseur said in a
press release. "Emanuel is a rider capable of competing with the best riders in the world and his arrival within our structure is a new challenge. We want to allow him to find his best level in 2025 and he will of course be our trump card for the general classification of the Grand Tours."
Buchmann is a rider that finished fourth in the 2019 Tour de France, and has on his palmarès also a seventh spot at the 2022 Giro. As the German team signed more quality riders for the Grand Tours he settled in a domestique role, but still had his personal ambitions. This year's Giro was definitely one of them but he was taken out of the lineup to his surprise. He hasn't and will not race a three-week race this season and for several months it had already been reported that he would leave the team, and over the past weeks it was heavily reported that he had an agreement with the French World Tour team - that has also signed the Dylan Teuns and Simon Carr in what is a renewal of the leading riders.
“After 10 seasons at Bora – Hansgrohe, I really wanted something new, to discover a new environment, and a different team culture too," Buchmann had to say. "I quickly understood that Cofidis trusted me to take on this challenge. I had spoken a lot with Simon Geschke about the team. I am very happy to join Cofidis. I really hope to be able to show my best, have good races and reach my full potential. If that is the case, I know I can get good results! I am a climber and a rider who appreciates the general classification. Obviously, being in a French team, I will fight to do the Tour de France again!” »
