36-year old Alessandro De Marchi is one of the most experienced riders in the peloton and Team BikeExchange - Jayco have announced his signing for the 2023 season, in a time where it was beginning to be very tight for the veteran.
De Marchi has raced since 2021 in the Israel - Premier Tech team, but has this year struggled to find his best form. The Italian is a three-time stage winner at the Vuelta a Espana but also has other wins in races such as the Critérium du Dauphiné and Giro dell' Emillia, specializing in the hilly races and specially in the solo attacks.
“Having Alessandro join the team is a really great addition for us. He has so much experience and it was important for us to find the right rider that can easily slot into our team environment," team manager Brent Copeland said in a press release. "But also a rider that we trust to bring great experience and not only be able to act as a role model for the younger riders but be able to perform when given his own opportunity as well."
The two have agree on a one-year deal. De Marchi has specialized as a breakaway expert over the years, but following a complicated season where his team Israel - Premier Tech has been relegated, he no longer had a position reserved within the team. However, he gets to stay at World Tour level.
"I am very excited to begin this new adventure, it will be an important year for me to show that I am still a strong rider and one of my key roles will be to bring and use my experience from the last ten years as a professional," De Marchi commented.
