Aleksandr Vlasov was at risk to shed time on the sixth stage of the Tour de France after a late crash, however managed to save the situation relatively unscathed.
“Actually, one guy crashed in front of me in that right turn and I simply had no place to go. When I crashed the guys waited immediately and they did a great job to bring me back," Vlasov said in a post-race interview. BORA - hansgrohe worked throughout the day to bring the three-man breakaway back and have a chance to fight for the stage win, however their priority changed to saving the day after Vlasov crashed with 8.5 kilometers to go.
He had the support of some teammates to make the chase back into the GC group though ahead of the final climb. "We chased hard and I was back in the first group around four kilometers to go. In the end I lost just five seconds, and those probably because I had to go full for the last eight kilometers," he said.
"But I felt good the whole day again and even after the crash I could push hard, so I am confident also about the next days. I have some cuts and scratches but it’s not too bad I think," the Russian concluded. Vlasov now sits in seventh place in the overall classification, 52 seconds down on Tadej Pogacar.
