Vuelta a Espana 2026 Classifications update stage 5 - Pogacar continues to lead overall, points and KOM classifications

The first red jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana will be decided immediately in Monaco, where a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial opens a race featuring more than 58,000 metres of climbing, repeated summit finishes and a second race against the clock later in the final week.
This live classifications hub will be updated after every stage with the latest General Classification, Points Classification, Mountains Classification and Best Young Rider standings, tracking the fight for the red, green, polka-dot and white jerseys from Stage 1 on August 22 through to the final stage in Granada on September 13.
The overall battle will be shaped by repeated opportunities for the climbers, from the early Pyrenean and Andorran tests to Calar Alto, Sierra de la Pandera, Penas Blancas and the decisive Collado del Alguacil. The two individual time trials and bonus seconds provide further chances for the gaps between the main contenders to change.
Sprint finishes and intermediate sprints will drive the points competition, breakaways can quickly transform the mountains standings and the white jersey will develop alongside many of the same stages that decide the general classification. Each update will show the latest standings after the day's racing and highlight the important changes across all four competitions.

General Classification Standings after Stage 5
The overall classification has remained the same over the fifth day of racing. After a stage in the mountains, this Tuesday's stage featured some climbing but there were not attempts to disrupt the current order. The sprinters had their way, and so Tadej Pogacar held on to his lead of 3:21 minutes over Primoz Roglic. Enric Mas closes out the podium currently, 3:32 minutes behind.
Sepp Kuss, Oscar Onley, Richard Carapaz, Felix Gall, Mattias Skjelmose, Jarno Widar and Jay Vine currently close out the Top10.

Points Classification Standings after Stage 5
The points classification was the most affected one today, albeit with some interesting tactics. Ethan Hayter attacked the race to win the intermediate sprint, hence capturing points whilst Wout Van Aert rode to second behind. But Hayter would not contest the final sprint and Van Aert scored very few points, meaning both riders - despite being the only ones with that ambition - have not truly moved up the standings.
Tadej Pogacar, who hasn't tried obtaining points, continues to lead the green jersey standings with 82 points, ahead of Matthew Brennan who has 60. Neither have also contested the intermediate sprint. Christophe Laporte notably sits fourth ahead of Van Aert, despite not being the chosen man for the intermediate sprints nor the team's designated sprinter.

Tadej Pogacar remained in the lead of the KOM classification, with no major changes in a day that didn't feature much climbing. As it stands, Lorenzo Fortunato appears to be his big rival when it comes to this classification.

Youth Classification Standings after Stage 5
Oscar Onley continues to be the leader of the youth classification, taking it into the sixth day of racing after his strong ride in the Pyrenees. Jarno Widar, Rasmses Debruyne, Pablo Torres and Marco Brenner follow not far away; but neither have in the past proven their Grand Tour credentials.
