"A lot can still happen" - Jonas Vingegaard not ready to give up Paris-Nice win

Paris-Nice saw it's queen stage today as the riders rode up the Col de la Couillole. Jonas Vingegaard showed a calmer and better ride, but came up short of success nevertheless.

“The gears were a bit too powerful for me today. I decided to go at my own pace. That went well," Vingegaard told reporters after the finish. Jumbo-Visma set up for an offensive ride up the final climb, with Tobias Foss leading the peloton up the final 16-kilometer ascent. One well suited to Vingegaard, where he was able to better match Tadej Pogacar and David Gaudu.

Vingegaard himself was the one to open things up. However, it was Tadej Pogacar who launched the first decisive attack. Pacing himself however, Vingegaard managed to return to the front alongside David Gaudu. "I was able to return after every attack, which in any case gives confidence. But I also know that I still have to improve this season," he continues.

He paced himself to the front again in the final kilometer, but in the final sprint he could not match his rival duo. A persistent ride, but one that seen him finish to third. "This race is not one of the absolute main goals of this season, so there is still time to achieve that," he assures.

Vingegaard enters the final difficult stage around Nice in third position, 58 seconds down on Tadej Pogacar. “There is another stage tomorrow. A lot can still happen there, so I certainly won't bury the hatchet. I will keep fighting for it," he concluded.
