Primoz Roglic has never looked to be on his very best form during his return to racing at Tirreno-Adriatico, but he has taken the victory in all the key stages for the overall classification. The Jumbo-Visma rider has almost sealed the overall win with this triumph.
“We know from experience that it is not over before the last stage has been completed. One more day. A lot of guys were up within a few seconds and there were a lot of attacks," Roglic said in the flash interview. It was a glorious win, the third consecutive one. Jumbo-Visma were put under pressure as Aleksandr Vlasov attacked in the final lap of the circuit and Wilco Kelderman crashed and could not support the team.
Despite this, the work of UAE Team Emirates and INEOS Grenadiers cancelled the offensive from other riders, and Roglic managed to respond to the attacks of Mikel Landa and João Almeida in the main ascent of the day. Heading into the hilltop finish in Osimo his blue jersey was already secure, but in a burning sprint he still managed to take the win, outsprinting João Almeida and Tao Geoghegan Hart who now joined him on the podium positions.
"In the end I made it, I am very happy with that," Roglic concluded. This win virtually confirms his overall win. Having defended himself against the attacks of BORA and distancing Lennard Kämna, he starts the final tricky day of racing with 18 seconds of advantage over João Almeida and 23 over Tao Geoghegan Hart.
