With the Tour de France concluded, stat geeks can finally rub their hands and go through the immense amount of data from this year's race. Another interesting statistic is that of which rider would win the Tour de France if the race was not decided by overall classification but instead on the lowest sum of each stage result combined.
If that were to be the case, Tadej Pogacar would end up taking his third title, often sprinting on hilly and flat stages close to the front, whilst holding his own in the mountains and time-trial naturally. He would have 359 points, whilst Jonas Vingegaard would finish second with 419. Vingegaard lost 72 points to Pogacar on the final day however as he celebrated with is team, so until stage 20 he had a very tight lead.
Without surprise, the Top10 is made out of GC riders who, as the name suggests, need to remain consistent throughout the whole race and finish well on all stages to avoid time losses. Jai Hindley, Carlos Rodríguez and Adam Yates would finish in the Top5, whilst the best rider who at no point contested the GC would be Valentin Madouas in 13th place.
