2023 was the second ever fastest edition of the
Tour de France - 2022 being the fastest in history - and we rank all 21 stages by average speed, taking a look into the quickest and slowest days of this year's mountainous route.
The fastest day on the bike was stage 19 into Poligny which features quite rolling terrain, but because of the incredibly intense breakaway battle, saw an average of 49.13Km/h making it by far the fastest average of this year's race (which in itself averaged 41.408Km/h in total). Stage 8 into Limoges, another day with a hilly finale, saw the second highest average surprisingly with 47.70Km/h. Towards the bottom, the queen stage into Courchevel was by far the slowest featuring the most climbing kilometers and the brutal Col de la Loze, stage winner Felix Gall averaged only 34.3Km/h, with stages 6 and 14 being the second and third slowest featuring highly mountainous terrain.
