Another day of an intense battle between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour de France and the pair simply could not be separated, despite the brilliant work of Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates teammate, Adam Yates.
“I was in front of Tadej, but suddenly I was leading solo. Then I had to keep riding," says Yates in a post-stage interview, referencing when he was setting such an infernal pace on the front, even Pogacar and Vingegaard could hold his back wheel. "Marc Soler then got me going again. In the end, Tadej came from the background with a lot of speed. I think as a team we have shown that we are very strong. Fortunately, we still have a week to take the yellow jersey."
Just 10 seconds separate the duo in the fight for the Maillot Jaune as the race reaches the second rest day, as Yates says himself, it's all to play for still. "No, it was certainly not the plan to release Tadej. We had some problems with the radio. It worked to our advantage because I am still quite high in the standings," continues the winner of stage 1.

"If Pogačar lets me drive, Jumbo-Visma will have to go after it. This was a bit unexpected, but things like this add up over three weeks. We'll keep trying and hopefully we'll be on the podium in Paris with the yellow jersey," he continues. "I have no idea where I stand exactly. I am happy with my condition and the team looks very good towards the third week. For now I'm riding very consistently. Hopefully I can keep these good legs."
