Sadly for Tom Pidcock, the Brit fell even further away on stage 15 of the 2023 Tour de France. The INEOS Grenadiers rider now sits in 12th 16:53 down and looks set to divert his attention to helping teammate Carlos Rodriguez secure a podium spot.
"It was a super hard day," Pidcock said afterwards in conversation with ITV Sport. "We're going to give it everything to keep Carlos Rodriguez in 3rd now. I think he's cemented that today. He won yesterday, his first Tour victory and he's backed it up today and performed really well again. It's impressive."
For Pidcock, the race marks a first attempt at sustaining a general classification challenge at a Grand Tour and there is definitely something to build on. "Yesterday I was disappointed. A few things went wrong and I blew up. I didn't look after myself properly in the heat and I paid for it, yesterday and today but at least I give it my best shot."
