Warren Barguil set to return to Team DSM-Firmenich after six seasons away

Warren Barguil is leaving his home land, in terms of racing, and returning to the team where he has seen the most success in his career. The Breton is getting ready to move into Team DSM-Firmenich.

Barguil, 31 years of age now, has started his career in 2013 on Team Sunweb (now DSM) and has remained there until 2017. A Tour de l'Avenir winner he promised a lot climbing wise but was throughout his career an inconsistent rider, who become a breakaway specialist instead of a stage-racer. He's also featured well in the classics.

He won two stages at the 2013 Vuelta a Espana but the peak of his career was at the 2017 Tour de France where he won two mountain stages including the final day to the Col de l'Izoard and the KOM jersey, racing on feel but proving himself to be one of the best climbers in the world. He took a step down the following year towards Team Fortuneo - Samsic (now Arkéa Samsic), Bretagne's main team, where he was a leader ever since.

He's become French national champion in 2019 and in 2022 he won the GP Miguel Indurain and a stage at Tirreno-Adriatico. This year he chased stage wins at both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, coming close but not succeeding in neither. At the end of this season his contract ends and it is reported that a deal has been agreed with DSM.
