Mathieu van der Poel’s Paris-Roubaix victory dominated the
headlines on Sunday, but for his
Alpecin-Deceuninck teammate
Silvan Dillier,
the day took a very different turn.
Dillier was involved in a dramatic crash during the race
after colliding with a
Team Visma | Lease a Bike mechanic. The incident, caught
on camera, looked particularly nasty and raised immediate concerns about
potential serious injury.
Thankfully, Dillier has since provided a positive update.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, he shared reassuring news with fans, "Many
of you have seen the footage of my crash at Paris-Roubaix. it looked really
dramatic and there was speculation about injuries like a broken hand or finger.
I am relieved to share that, fortunately, nothing is broken and I'm feeling
well.”
The Swiss rider also reflected on the unpredictable and
chaotic nature of the race, and praised the professionalism of the response, "In
such a chaotic race like Paris-Roubaix, we were really lucky it didn't turn out
worse. And I appreciate the message and sincere apology from the Team Visma | Lease
a Bike mechanic."
He closed his message with a note of gratitude and a holiday
wish to his supporters, "Thank you for all your support and kind messages
and I want to wish you a peaceful and happy Easter holidays."
