Update: Neck fracture ends Tiesj Benoot's season after training crash

This Monday the Jumbo-Visma team have received bad news, as Tiesj Benoot is reported to have sustained serious injuries due to a training crash whilst at altitude in Livigno.

The Belgian rider was in Italy training alongside Wout van Aert in preparation for the final third of the season, and is said to have crashed hard in a descent. Although Benoot is not in danger of life, he has sustained multiple fractures, in an incident that is possible to have have been caused by a vehicle.

After what has been a successful season, Benoot rode the Tour de France in support of Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert, before racing the Clasica San Sebastian last weekend where he went on to finish in third place. He had his eye on the late-season classics where he'd be a big contender on several races, including the World championships, but his season appears to be over now in a blink of an eye.

The Belgian has the following morning posted on Instagram, reassuring his fans and providing an update. Benoot has suffered a small fracture in his neck, and guarranteed that he has received good medical care to recover from the crash.
