Soudal - Quick-Step made the right choice to select Paul Magnier to the
Tour of Slovakia, as the Frenchman has been dominating the race. On stage 3, the young sprinter has net his third win in three days, remaining completely unbeatable and even putting himself in position to win the overall classification.
The day's breakaway was formed by Visma's Tom Gloag, Martin Voltr, Rémi Daumas and Pawel Bernas. However, the strong pace on the day saw the group being caught with over 40 kilometers to go, with a bunch sprint then likely but not assured as the high pace and the climbs on the day led to a lot of fatigue and riders getting dropped.
Late in the day the Frenchman Oscar Nilsson-Julien gave it a shot, but was eventually reeled in with 7 kilometers to go as the teams prepared for the third bunch sprint out of three this race, an uphill one, unlike the previous two. Niklas Behrens, reigning under-23 World Champion, tried to surprise, but it did not work, with Dries van Gestel once again leading out the yellow jersey Paul Magnier who rode to a third dominant win in the race. Matthew Walls and Lukas Kubis rode to second and third on the day.
