With just under five months to the start of the most iconic stage-race in cycling, the teams that will be participating in it have been confirmed today by the organization of the Tour de France, and includes the expected squads.
The 18 World Tour teams were automatically selected for the race and since the collapse of Team Qhubeka NextHash, half of the wildcards had already been attributed, one to Mathieu van der Poel's Alpecin-Fenix who was one of the strongest teams over the 2021 season, and the other to Nairo Quintana's Arkéa Samsic, because of their classifications in the 2021 UCI Pro Team rankings.
Today however the remaining two wildcards were announced, confirming the teams that will be at the Tour, those being Peter Sagan's TotalEnergies who was expected to get the invite, and the last spot falls to the remaining French team B&B Hotels - KTM. Perhaps without surprise as the race as always traditionally attributed the wildcards to the local teams, left out was the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team which had hoped to make it's Grand Tour debut in France with young supertalent Tobias Johannessen as a man to watch, being the current Tour de l'Avenir title holder.
