Could Primoz Roglic return to Team Visma | Lease a Bike in 2027?

Primoz Roglic’s future is back under the spotlight in the heart of the transfer market. The Slovenian has yet to state publicly which team he will ride for from 2027, with Team Visma | Lease a Bike potentially being one of the contenders.
Currently, the Slovenian sits second in the overall classification of the Vuelta a España, proving he still has the level to compete at the highest level after a complicated year.
Roglič’s contract situation for 2027 keeps the market wide open. In recent weeks, the Slovenian’s name has been linked to different teams, although none of those options has yet turned into a confirmed destination.
One scenario that had gained traction was Lotto, especially given the Belgian team’s interest in signing a rider capable of delivering a significant haul of UCI points in its fight to maintain category.
Roglič had also been linked with Pinarello-Q36.5 and Bahrain - Victorious previously.
Now a completely different alternative emerges: returning to Visma | Lease a Bike, the setup where Roglič built much of his extraordinary palmarès and became one of the standout riders of his generation.
The possibility also has a sporting context that makes the rumour particularly striking. The Dutch structure is seeking experienced riders to reinforce its block around Jonas Vingegaard, especially with the Grand Tours in mind.
Roglič knows that role perfectly. During his time at the team he repeatedly took on responsibilities within a structure whose major aim was also to fight for the three-week races.
However, the Slovenian ultimately left the organisation to seek new sporting opportunities and a platform where he could once again fight for his own goals with greater freedom. His exit led to his move to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. Now, several years on, the landscape could change again.

A unique opportunity for Roglic
Roglič faces a particularly important phase of his career. At 36, with his 37th birthday due in October, the Slovenian is likely looking at the last major contract of his professional journey.
That is why the decision on his next team will carry huge weight. It is not only about finding a structure able to offer a major deal, but also about defining the role he will have in the final years of his career.
A return to Visma | Lease a Bike would also have an obvious emotional pull. Roglič would rejoin the setup that supported a fundamental part of his trajectory and where he became one of the world’s best Grand Tour riders.
The chance to pull on the same jersey he wore before leaving for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, and to do so alongside Vingegaard, would undoubtedly be one of the market’s headline moves.

The great unknown would be the role Roglič would take on in that hypothetical return. Visma needs experience to accompany Vingegaard at the Grand Tours, and Roglič has already shown throughout his career that he can be fundamental within a block at this level.
But the Slovenian also retains a stellar palmarès and, despite his age, still has individual ambitions. Any agreement would therefore need to clearly define his objectives and the space he would have within the team.
That would be one of the keys to knowing whether the rumour could become reality.

For now, there is no confirmation that Roglič will return to Visma | Lease a Bike. It is a rumour that has surfaced in the heat of the market and has opened an especially eye-catching possibility.
The Slovenian, meanwhile, remains focused on the present. He still has the goal of trying to overhaul Enric Mas in the fight for La Vuelta 2026’s red jersey before making a definitive decision on what could be the final major chapter of his career.
