After 2020,
Rémi Cavagna has once again become time-trial national champion over in France, a strong performance has seen him yesterday jump back into the national colours.
“It’s amazing! To have this jersey again means a lot to me. It’s an honour to wear the colours of my country in the time trials for the next twelve months, it’s something that makes me very proud," Cavagna said in a press release. "I knew the parcours suited me, I made some recons this week and was aware that on the final hill I needed to still have some power left, so I put in a solid ride from the beginning but kept some energy to increase the tempo there.”
The recent Criterium du Dauphiné showed Cavagna in good form, having finished third in the time-trial behind Mikkel Bjerg and Jonas Vingegaard only. He didn't face an easy challenge, reigning champion Bruno Armirail came off a very successful Giro d'Italia and looked to be balanced. However in the latter stages of the time-trial Cavagna put in a significant acceleration that saw him take the win.
“The fans were really incredible today, they made a fantastic atmosphere out there as they encouraged me from the start. This victory gives me extra motivation for Sunday’s road race, where despite the fact we will ride in just three, we are confident we can go for a good result”, he concluded.
