Biniam Girmay stars Intermarché - Circus - Wanty's Tour de France in search of maiden stage win

Intermarché - Circus - Wanty has made public their lineup for the upcoming Tour de France, the Belgian team carries specific stage win ambitions and Biniam Girmay is confirmed to make his debut at the Grand Boucle.

“Our ambition for the Tour 2023 is to take our very first stage win and to finish in the top ten of the final classification," team performance manager Aike Visbeek said in a press release announcing the lineup. "To achieve this, last winter we built a strong and experienced group around our leaders Biniam Girmay and Louis Meintjes. This group raced often together and this from our first races of the season on Majorca."

Meintjes will chase a GC result in a suiting route after a brilliant 2022 where he finished 7th at the Tour and won a stage at the Vuelta a Espana. After finishing 7th at the Criterium du Dauphiné, he has shown good form ahead of the race. Lilian Calmejane, Rui Costa and Georg Zimmermann will be chasing breakaway wins in the hilly days, forming a dangerous trio, all of which riders who come in with good form - the latter a recent stage winner at the Criterium du Dauphiné.

But Biniam Girmay will nevertheless headline the lineup, a debut that has been highly anticipated. The Eritrean will be chasing stage wins in the bunch sprints, whilst his ability to climb will allow him to fight for wins on days that don't suit the pure fast men. He will be highly supported by Mike Teunissen, Adrien Petit and Dion Smith who will be setting him up for the sprints.
