Primoz Roglic is the strongest climber in the
Giro d'Italia, according to Thijs Zonneveld. The Slovenian has so far not shown his true legs in the mountains, and there is the belief that he will have the upper hand in the mountains on the final week.
“I think Roglic is very good. He will certainly have some problems with his fall, but I think the team just wants to downplay it a bit," Thijs Zonneveld said in In Het Wiel. "If you saw Roglic sitting in the mountain stage to Crans-Montana, you can see that he is whistling on the bike. Looking at the entire Giro, Roglic has not yet shown the level we are used to from him. But of course they have not yet had to race on the cutting edge. If you really have a problem, you don't want to let your opponents know, do you? I do think he is the best man in the race."
Whilst the leader of
Jumbo-Visma has crashed a few times already during the race, he has not shown difficulties anywhere except for the opening day's time-trial where he lost some time - to Remco Evenepoel and Tao Geoghegan Hart, who are however no longer in the race. Stage 15 is a tough day, but it is expected that the pink jersey contenders will only go to the max on stage 16 which has it's summit finish at Monte Bondone.
"It's a wonderful course. I do think that Jumbo-Visma wants to make a better race compared to previous stages. But we'll have to see it first. I don't dare to be very enthusiastic anymore," Zonneveld says of stage 15 where the final large ascent summits with over 30 kilometers to go.
