After a lot of former riders had raised some rather critical viewpoints of the racing at this year's
Giro d'Italia, the Maglia Rosa
Geraint Thomas has hit back with a savage response.
The criticism has mostly stemmed from the changed route of stage 13 and the lack of a general classification battle that followed. With numerous riders who were incredibly successful in the 80s and 90s disagreeing with the riders' choice to get the stage shortened and referring to the fact that back in their day they would have raced the stage.
Always good for an interesting quote, Thomas responded to this criticism with a distinct lack of care. "A lot of other things happened in the 80s and 90s that we don't do now as well which we're proud of," the Welshman said with a sly smile to Eurosport alluding to the doping craze that was all the rage back in the day. "So yeah, they can say what they want."
