The
Tour de France starts on Friday, and
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team has yet to announce its tour team, the decision to take
Mark Cavendish to the Tour is unlikely to succeed however he's shown a good point in having him present.
Cavendish won the British national championships from a breakaway and has in his post-race interview specifically talked about the upcoming Tour: “I haven’t had a call from the team one way or the other. I’ve trained as if I’m going to the Tour, you can see my condition is there," he pointed out. His win, although against third division riders, was one of an unusual style to the pure sprinters, who was in the front all day long and succeeded in the end of the race.
He's looking for a record-breaking 35th win at the Tour, but since the start of the year has been below Fabio Jakobsen in the team hierarchy and also in terms of results. "I know if I went, I’d win," he responds though. "I came good out of the Giro and I’m going so much better than last year, and you know what happened last year – I won 4 stages of the Tour de France and the green jersey."
Lastly, he hinted once again at the lack of a good relation with the team; "It’s unlikely I’m going to the Tour de France so I might as well use it today and at least show that the reason I’m not going to the Tour is not because I’ve got bad form," he said.
