Lenny Martínez' grandfather Mariano rode the Tour de France ten times, and his father Miguel rode it back in 2002. In 2024 the soon-to-be Bahrain - Victorious rider made his debut in the Grand Boucle but under unexpected circumstances; but in future years and perhaps 2025 already he aims to race it aiming for the overall classification.
The 21-year old was in Paris this Tuesday for the reveal of the 2025 route and shared his opinions. "I really like the course, there is a first flat part even if these are always stressful stages, and after, very beautiful mountainous stages with iconic finishes," Martínez said in an interview with Cyclism'Actu. Martínez raced the Tour this year, but that was after his departure from the team was known; and it very much seemed like a last-minute change for him to aim for stage wins, whilst erasing his planned goal of aiming for the GC at the Vuelta a España.
Groupama-FDJ did not bring any benefit from that decision, as the Frenchman hadn't prepared for the Tour and was nowhere near his best form throughout the entire race. Next year this is his goal however: "It's not 100% certain, but it's certain that I'll be led to do it in the coming years, that's the goal, of course. We'll see in December, I don't have my racing program yet".
Bahrain - Victorious has had a very unusual winter of signings, featuring five riders from it's development team, another from DSM's development team; Portuguese continental scene climber Afonso Eulálio and Lotto Dstny's experienced domestique Mathijs Paasschens.
Martínez is the star signing and the main focus of the winter for the team: "I had a few video conferences with them, a few calls with the coaches and nutritionists to get back into training a little after the break. For now, I haven't done any training camp yet."
