"The Anti-Pogi-Tour: a course that suits him as little as possible" - Expert claims 2025 Tour de France route is a direct reaction to Pogacar's dominance

2024 was undoubtedly the year of Tadej Pogacar in cycling terms as the Slovenian dominated the campaign, adding two Grand Tours, two monuments and a world title to his palmares among other successes. If he is to repeat such a feat in 2025 though, the Slovenian may have to do so, fighting against course designers according to Thijs Zonneveld.
"The Tour organization must have watched with horror at the way Tadej Pogacar decided one race after another prematurely last year. If he was at the start, the winner was known," writes the Dutch ex-pro turned pundit in his column for Algemeen Dagblad. "Nightmare for the shareholders of the ASO of course: after a week and a half they see all the TV viewers zapping away to Heel Frankrijk Bakt or the World Swimming Championship with that new French poster boy. So it can't be otherwise that they have thought about the Anti-Pogi-Tour: a course that suits him as little as possible."
In particular, a return to some climbs where Pogacar has memorably struggled in the past, stick out to Zonneveld as he looks for evidence to back up his theory. "On the Ventoux, Pogacar was dropped by Vingegaard in 2021, on the Hautacam he was quartered by Wout van Aert in 2022 and the Col de la Loze is from Pogacar's collapse in 2023. They are simply looking for all the demons of the Slovenian prodigy once again," he explains.
"They hope to revive the duel between Pogacar and Vingegaard, but the Pogacar of 2024 was not the Pogacar of 2023, 2022 and 2021. He had no weak spots last year: he was better than his rivals on every terrain," Zonneveld continues. "Let's hope that his competitors, with Vingegaard at the forefront, pull a rabbit out of the hat this winter. Otherwise, the 2025 Tour de France will once again be a one-man show. With these proportions, it doesn't matter how many of Pogacar's demons they put in the Tour."

The anti-Tadej course lol. It's a hard route, it will be a win for the fans and a win for the career of whoever takes it.

They always attemted to make the Tour anti Froome but he still won anyway. If Pog is good enough he will also win whatever the course thrown at him and show that he is a great champion . If he dosn't then he is not good enough, no excuses. Having said that it is hard to see past him.

I think this is not the course that will stop Tadej. If you want to stop Tadej, you should put only pan flat stages with lots of bonus seconds, team time trials and pan flat and "plogue" style straight time trials, in it.

This way there are no hills for advatages to be had on. Pure sprinting is one of Pogacars biggest weaknesses, yes he can sprint, but he will probably be outshined by better ones. Pan flat time trialing doesn't suit someone light; that's why Fillippo Gana beat him in that one time trial in the Giro. Yes Remco is the world champion, but he is crazy aero... Team time trials are another enemy for him if he doesn't have the best team.

I guess the best way to beat Pogacar is to leave out any mountain stages and hilly time trials, and only make stages that cater to his weaknesses, but are perfect for the strengths of other riders.

The only logical solution I have ever seen !

How thats not suitable I don't know, he'll win the Paris-Roubaix as well, nothing isn't suitable for him... - all his compatriots know that

Pogi can win classics so I don't think he will have any trouble here and actually it might keep him from using too much energy the first week. Maybe Vingegard should be more worried, Evenpoel should have a better chance with this course as well.

What would be the course not suitable to Tadej? I don't know any. Even sprinting with the best ones he can arrive 9 or better (3 in Milano-Sanremo, 3 in Glasgow). If not crash and can have a perfect training, he always does well, very well or exceptional . It's TADEJ.

Interesting argument about the course being anti-Pogacar... but then Zonneveld contradicts himself:

"He had no weak spots last year: he was better than his rivals on every terrain"

So which is it?

Basically this course has less of his strengths which is everything😅

Does it? Just compared to Jonas, I expect him to be 1 minute in front after 9 stages

The one thing people should have learned by now is that you don’t challenge Pogacar and expect him to respond lightly. He dominates. Lose a sprint? Win the next N stages (Catalunya, Giro, Tour). Get 4th in a 2 man sprint? Dominate the next time at Flanders. Are they sure it was wise to plan the race this way?
