Slovenia has won all Grand Tours this season with Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic, and now the duo will team up together for the first time this year at the World Championships where coincidentally the rouite will be suited to the climbers and they will be among the main favourites for the rainbow jersey.
"The goal is to win a medal in both the time trial and the road race. With Primoz, we have a big contender for the time trial. We are counting on one medal for the road race, but it could be two, of course. We will need a bit of luck," team national coach Uros Murn told MMC RTV Slovenija.
"It is incredibly beautiful that we have two guys who win Grand Tours in the same year. That is unthinkable for all countries in the world, but this time not for our little Slovenia. We know that they both have a busy schedule with their team, but it is an honour that they also want to represent their country at the World Championships".
The course in Zurich will have 4200 meters of climbing and is one of the best routes for climbers in recent years. Despite their generational talent, neither Pogacar or Roglic have ever won a world title and this will be an opportunity as well suited as it could be for the time being. Alongside the likes of Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel they will be among the favourites.
Backing them up will be Matej Mohoric and Jan Tratnik who can be very dangerous wildcards and important riders for the eastern European nation; and three support riders in Domen Novak, Luka Mezgec and Matevz Govekar.

Tadej Pogacar

They're being diplomatic. They know that Tadej is a better time trialist than Roglic nowadays.
It's labeled as "one of the best routes for climbers in recent years", but I have my doubts. Unless a few super climbers attack and completely destroy the momentum from 25k to go, it's going to come back together to a dozen puncheurs, and maybe a few strong sprinters.
I get the feeling Pogacar was practicing today in Montreal.
Since Primoz left Visma he is more daring, takes more risks like solo attacks and now accepts to ride a very hard World Championship race in team with his nightmare-friendly rival-fellow country Tadej. I adore Tadej but I'd like too much Primoz to win (Tadej has time).
